The 2022 BSCC Shell Show

The Shell Show was held on 29 October 2022 at Theydon Bois Village Hall. After three long years the competition was back, and to celebrate the Club's golden anniversary there were a few additional elements to the day, including a display of 50 rare shells (collected by Dave Charlton and inspired by Peter Dance's well-known book), a silent auction, and of course a cake, made by new Club President Daphne Howlett. The committee were also very pleased to receive a crate of (appropriately golden) Belgian beer, kindly presented by Koen Fraussen. The auction was well supported and raised £250 to be donated to the Ocean Conservation Trust.

Our thanks go to the ever-crucial catering team and to this year's competition judges, and our congratulations to the prize winners listed below. There are now even more awards to aim for, with the inauguration of the Michael Dixon Cup, to be presented to the winner of the "One genus or family" class. We would always like to see competitive entries from more of the membership – please see here for tips on exhibiting at next year's Shell Show.
